Fat Catherine sisterhood
Fat Catherine Sisterhood is an association for re-enacting a group of gunners operating a small bombard of early 15th century. Sisterhood is located in Helsinki area and consists of nine female gunners and support members. Sisterhood is most active in the summer; we're participating in Medieval events, meeting for shooting practices and giving re-enactment performances.
The Cannon and Her Gunners
Fat Catherine is small Medieval bombard. It's a muzzle loader that has caliber of 2,65 inches or 65 millimeters and length of 10,8 inch or 275 mm. It's design is typical for late 14th or early 15th century. Operating Fat Catherine takes a crew of at least three gunners, well trained to work together seamlessly.
We re-enact a single group of Medieval gunners with their commander and assistants and we do it as as authentically as possible except in two aspects: all our gunners are in fact female but they compensate it with most serious fake moustaches, and for safety reasons we don't use cannonballs or any hard ammunition but with all that thundering and gunpowder smoke you'd never notice that!
How to join the Sisterhood
You can join Fat Catherine Sisterhood as a support member by contacting our chairman Susanna Huhtanen. Membership fee for support members is 20 euros / year. Support members are invited to take part in a members' picnic and shooting demostration in summer.
If you wish to apply for the membership of Fat Catherine sisterhood as a gunner, please contact our chairman Susanna Huhtanen. Membership fee is 100 euros.
